King Shantanu had it. Syed Makdoom had it. Umesh Krishnan had it. And before you ask me, about these men, I will tell you their stories in brief. Shantanu: King Shantanu is a epical character from the 5000 year old epic, the Mahabharata. And the available edited version probably does not contain the Domestic Violence that Shantanu, the King suffered at the hands of his wife. He fell in love with Ganga, who was the human body form of the Ganges River in India and proposed to marry her. She married on a condition that he will never ever question her, come what may. The day he questions, the marriage breaks. He agrees. They get married and she gets pregnant with their first child. But as soon as the child is born, Ganga throws them into the river and kills the newborn. Shantanu sees his child, his blood, his heir die before him and his helpless due to his promise since he wanted to save his marriage. And it was not only this child, one after another, 7 of the newborns one after another were killed and Shantanu, the King was a mute spectator, just to save the Marriage. Just to save the marriage he underwent the torture of sleeping 6 times with the murderer of his children before whom he was a powerless puppet, bound a promise, just to save the marriage. One can never imagine the mental torture he went through. And the day he could no longer take the ‘Honor Killings' of his innocent new born sons, he questioned her after the seventh murder. She left him as the promise was broken and ultimately the marriage was broken, the same marriage at the altar of which the great King laid the sacrifice of seven of his sons, his blood, his heirs. Looks like a height of mental torture? Read on further. Syed Makdoom: Syed Makdoom is a real character who laid down his own life at the altar of family in his love for his son. He was associated with a white collar job in the ministry of Social Welfare in Canada, a rare feat for any person not born in Canada and had served there for 11 years. Additionally he was a very intelligent person and a professionally trained counselor. However, his second marriage proved fatal for him. Muskan Sehr, the woman who married him by providing false information about her past marriages and the debacles within, lodged a false dowry case on Makdoom as he failed to satisfy her extortionary demands and later started blackmailing him. She did not allow him to meet his son, Rehan, who was the world for Makdoom. She and her parents left no stone unturned in torturing cornering him to such an extent that he ultimately committed suicide 9 days ago and left his pain in a parting video. Umesh Krishnan: Umesh Krishnan was a BPO employee. He loved his wife very much. But she loved her college mate and continued her affair with him after marriage even and used to talk to her paramour for late nights over phone. Umesh, on the other hand, wanted to settle down. But finally agrees to marry Honey as per his parents' wish. However, Honey had plans to cheat him and finally murdered Umesh to run away with her paramour. And so in the all the three stories we see a clear development of wives in torturing their husbands. First killing the sons to kill the husband the mentally, second killing the husband mentally by denying access to son and third one snubbed off his life to live a life with her lover. The women empowerment started by the Government and pampered and encouraged by the society has proved very fatal for husbands who are denied protection in marriages as the conservative society is unable to punish the woman. It has reached from Mental Torture to Murder, what waits to be seen is, where it leads to further.
