Murder is a heinous crime and attracts the stringent most punishment and the reason for that is, that human life being valued greatly, anyone who snubs away a human life, has to be punished very strictly. And whatsoever be the reason, murder has no justification and the murderer has to be punished. And similar is the case with suicide with a little difference that in this case the murderer and the victim are the one and the same person.

And it is considered to be a very extreme step when one person commits suicide, kills himself/herself due to any kind of emotional turmoil that the person may be undergoing. More often than not, a person committing suicide is driven to it, due to harassment meted out by someone very close, who is not expected to be inflicting pain. And in majority of the cases, it is the expectations crestfallen of the person committing suicide rather than the pain being so grievous because many other people might be going through the same pain, may at a different degree (which is a subject matter of debate), but not all such people commit suicide. Then why do some people do so? Are they weak? Answer is yes. However, the answer to this question may look simple but the question is neither simple nor exhaustive, it's merely illustrative. Illustrative of the fact that there is a lack of acceptance of a person's problem (or a possible invalidation as well), and to add to that, there is lack of help/support available, which needs to be highlighted upon, debated and the problem be addressed.

Syed Makdoom, a Canadian citizen, techie by profession and a resident of India currently, recently committed suicide. While this suicide may not be one of its kind as he committed suicide due to the domestic violence he was facing at the hands of his estranged wife since every year 57,000 married men like him, take to the drastic step, what has intrigued the wild media frenzy after his suicide is a sensational video left behind by him, in which he recorded himself, minutes before he committed suicide, elucidating the pain, harassment, torture, injustice, insensitivity and indifference that he underwent for a period dragging more than a year not only at the hands of his wife and in-laws but also the insensitive judiciary and the police.

The police booked him in a false dowry case, lodged by his wife, Muskan Sehr, who was a professional bride and the judiciary did not grant him visitation to see his child in his divorce case. Oblivious to the pain of a father, husband and a man, the insensitive law and order machinery carried on with its routine mechanical way of dealing  things with, which ultimately caused so much harassment to the man that he snubbed away his own life, not before making sure that his message reaches the world and the society.

And lastly the society, the society which is totally blind and deaf to men's problems as it is living in a myth that it is a man's world and always trivializes men's problems, refuses to extend any support to a man even emotionally and morally when he feels depressed, harassed and lonely. Exasperated the man is left with no option but to commit suicide. Every year 57000 married men are committing suicides as compared to 30000 married women and still the society is sleep walking. I think the time has come for men's welfare ministry to be established. aw and order machinery carried on with its routine mechanical way of dealing  things with, which ultimately caused so much harassment to the man that he snubbed away his own life, not before making sure that his message reaches the world and the society.

Sneak A Peek

Men’s Rights – Perspiration or Inspiration?

As I think about the today's theme - it reminds me of Thomas Edison, the man who invented the electric bulb. He had made a famous statement "Things are 99% perspiration, 1% inspiration"

Same applies to men's rights movement as well. It is a matter of constant awareness campaign and hitting at our opponents and proponents of male abuse. Contrary to popular belief, it is 3 times easier to abuse a male than a female because males have no support structure and male abuse is accepted by the society as social service.

Follow Yourself; Not Tradition

As I have repeatedly mentioned in my articles that cultures have deceived men, acting as vultures. Men have been used as the FREE ATM MACHINE, the UNPAID BODYGUARD, the de-facto PROTECTOR and PROVIDER, etc. by cultures and in the process have been reduced to disposable entities. Their abuse is considered a social service now.

And men, the way they are, are in a great way responsible for this. They rarely challenge or question conventions, traditions, histrionics and stereotypes thrust upon them. They do not feel the need to fight for their rights - only a handful of them are doing though scores are getting victimized. They do not demand for their space in the society and accept things as offered to them.

To this effect, today I take the example of Skandagupta - the great emperor of India. His stepmother has him sent to Ujjain so that her son can be made the emperor. He obeys her. But then the Huns attack India under the leadership of Attila the Hun. The army of Skandagupta calls him back as they needed his expertise.
