Identity Crisis for Men PDF Print E-mail

For years feminists have fought for the identity of a woman by despising her role as a homemaker, a housewife and kicked the society below the belt to the extent of terrorizing it to gain concessions for women (mostly for bad women at the cost of devout, sincere women and men). And the conservative society went on giving as well since they were guilty of suppressing both men and women. However, since feminists fought for women, the women not only got their due rights, also got a lot of other privileges.

But men were left behind as they were given the lollipop of the phrase that "It's a Man's World" and hence there is no need for men's rights. For years there has been no change in the traditional role of the man as the Protector and the Provider. On the other hand, for women the changes have been dramatic and drastic. Not only has their role as a home maker been reduced to a dummy one, they also have the choice now, whether to be a homemaker or a career woman. And even if a woman becomes a career woman, the onus of financial responsibility still lies on the man only while the woman MAY contribute if she so feels otherwise she is free to spend for herself. Hence we see that while men are not liberated from their traditional role, women are liberated. And thus this is an area where not only Gender Equality but identity regularization is also the call of the day. Men are losing their identity day by day. Earlier they were supposed to be the financial backbone of the family but with Women's Liberation and Role Liberalization, men are now supposed to be the financial backbone as well as homemakers and those who do not do so are termed chauvinists!

This identity crisis of men has led to many social problems, some of the foremost being high rate of divorces, formation of a fatherless society, more single women and single mothers, increased juvenile crime, skyrocketing suicides by married men since women are now not only more vocal of their assertions, their increased voice is taken as granted female behavior by the society in general and men in particular and those men who are victim of that female abuse have nowhere to go.

The harassment of men has gone to such an extent that an Identity-Redefinition for men is the call of the day which will be addressed in the next article. Keep watching this space.

Rohan  - Mistake in the article     |59.92.197.xxx |28-07-2011 11:42:28
I wish to correct a typo in the middle of the article. It reads, "Hence we see that while men are liberated from
their traditional role, women are liberated"

It should be, "Hence we see that while men are not liberated from
their traditional role, women are liberated"

Thanks

Sneak A Peek

Men’s Rights – Perspiration or Inspiration?

As I think about the today's theme - it reminds me of Thomas Edison, the man who invented the electric bulb. He had made a famous statement "Things are 99% perspiration, 1% inspiration"

Same applies to men's rights movement as well. It is a matter of constant awareness campaign and hitting at our opponents and proponents of male abuse. Contrary to popular belief, it is 3 times easier to abuse a male than a female because males have no support structure and male abuse is accepted by the society as social service.

Follow Yourself; Not Tradition

As I have repeatedly mentioned in my articles that cultures have deceived men, acting as vultures. Men have been used as the FREE ATM MACHINE, the UNPAID BODYGUARD, the de-facto PROTECTOR and PROVIDER, etc. by cultures and in the process have been reduced to disposable entities. Their abuse is considered a social service now.

And men, the way they are, are in a great way responsible for this. They rarely challenge or question conventions, traditions, histrionics and stereotypes thrust upon them. They do not feel the need to fight for their rights - only a handful of them are doing though scores are getting victimized. They do not demand for their space in the society and accept things as offered to them.

To this effect, today I take the example of Skandagupta - the great emperor of India. His stepmother has him sent to Ujjain so that her son can be made the emperor. He obeys her. But then the Huns attack India under the leadership of Attila the Hun. The army of Skandagupta calls him back as they needed his expertise.
