Man – A Victim of Social Bias PDF Print E-mail

The bias against a man is prevalent from the very onset. The very attitude of a presumption of guilt on part of a man is what acts as the foundation of the social bias. The moment a woman cries due to any reason, best known to her, the tirade of doubts is trained at the man she is accusing. And shift of blame is transferred to a man. Some visible examples of the bias are:-

  1. The Honorable Supreme Court of India convicting a rape victim without a medical investigation on the belief that the testimony of the woman is ‘cogent, believable and genuine', which is nothing but a de-facto presumption of guilt on part of the man that he must be a culprit.
  2. The justification given by lawyers and feminists when confronted with misuse of dowry laws containing false and baseless allegations on a husband drawn straight out of a ‘harassment template', that these ‘FALSE CASES OF DOWRY HARASSMENT, filed either to get quick divorce or treat the husband as FREE ATM MACHINE. The point of contention here, is that everyone believes the man must have done something and do not protest against open bias to men.
  3. Fathers being denied visitation rights and access to their children on the statement of the mother that he is abusive towards children are another manifestation of the bias wherein everyone simply presumes that the bias exists.

And many more such examples are there to this effect. Men have been victim of this bias since ages and to protect himself from this bias, he always tries to be good. Even that behavior of a man is viewed with a suspicion that he must be trying to hide something. Exasperated and frustrated when he becomes violent, being no longer able to tolerate the abuse, then the same violent behavior is exaggerated and used to show men in bad light, a vicious circle at play.

If a woman gets angry or abusive, then she is hailed as a bold woman whereas a man doing a same thing is penalized, because there is a bias that a woman will always do so under some compulsion whereas a man does it at either free will or out of habit. And all our social attitudes and laws are also designed keeping the same philosophy in mind. First the man is cornered to the extreme wherein he has no choice but to be violent, then he is condemned for the same violence. It's like enticing in a trap and penalizing.

To such an extent is the bias that there is,

  1. No limit to expectations to a man.
  2. No acceptance of the limitations of a man.
  3. No freedom of choice to a man.

He is just made to slog like a donkey to protect the females around him, be his mother, sister, wife or cousin, but when it comes to his own protection, he is left to fend for himself, saying he should have been responsible enough not to land in such a situation. The society does not take the responsibility of its men whereas it takes for women. This is a bias against men.

Sneak A Peek

Men’s Rights – Perspiration or Inspiration?

As I think about the today's theme - it reminds me of Thomas Edison, the man who invented the electric bulb. He had made a famous statement "Things are 99% perspiration, 1% inspiration"

Same applies to men's rights movement as well. It is a matter of constant awareness campaign and hitting at our opponents and proponents of male abuse. Contrary to popular belief, it is 3 times easier to abuse a male than a female because males have no support structure and male abuse is accepted by the society as social service.

Follow Yourself; Not Tradition

As I have repeatedly mentioned in my articles that cultures have deceived men, acting as vultures. Men have been used as the FREE ATM MACHINE, the UNPAID BODYGUARD, the de-facto PROTECTOR and PROVIDER, etc. by cultures and in the process have been reduced to disposable entities. Their abuse is considered a social service now.

And men, the way they are, are in a great way responsible for this. They rarely challenge or question conventions, traditions, histrionics and stereotypes thrust upon them. They do not feel the need to fight for their rights - only a handful of them are doing though scores are getting victimized. They do not demand for their space in the society and accept things as offered to them.

To this effect, today I take the example of Skandagupta - the great emperor of India. His stepmother has him sent to Ujjain so that her son can be made the emperor. He obeys her. But then the Huns attack India under the leadership of Attila the Hun. The army of Skandagupta calls him back as they needed his expertise.
