Before I go into the actual analysis, meaning and possible solution to the question posted in the title, I will share a fact with the readers. Recently, general elections have been held in India as the Government formed in 2004 had finished its 5 years of reign. In the 5 years, some of the most radical changes were brought in by the previous UPA Government.

Some of them were,

  1. Formation of a new ministry under the name Women and Child Development Ministry.
  2. Passing of the intra-gender discriminatory, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (PWDVA).

While I will NOT go into the possible and ongoing misuse of the PWDVA, the formation of Women and Child Development Ministry had some important ramifications touched upon in the article that appeared in the Indian Express.

The said article evaluates Mrs. Renuka Choudhary's performance as the Union Minister of Women and Child Development in the last 5 years and rates her at (-1)/10. It also says that the Women and Child Development Ministry was earlier a part of the Human Resources Development and was branched off as a separate ministry in 2006 under the auspices of the Women and Child Development from Human Resources Development.

So when women and children were separated from Human Resources Development, and given a special ministry, why were men left off? Do not men have issues? Do not men need welfare? Do they not have grievances to be addressed?

Difficult to answer as in the last 62 years of Indian Independence neither a single rupee has been allocated for men's welfare nor a single study done about men by the Government of India. It is only self-supported, non-funded fringe groups like Save Indian Family Foundation who are studying issues on men and demanding a men's welfare ministry.

Whereas, the Government has conveniently forgotten men and always treats them as second class citizens, FREE ATM MACHINES and leaves them to fend for themselves. They pay 82% of the taxes, carry the financial responsibility of the entire family on them, do the most risky jobs, die for their country land, sacrifice their lives for others, sacrifice their interests for other, put family before self, etc. etc. And yet, there is on one to listen to their woes or provide them with a communication channel which is non-invalidating about their problems and does not justify their ignominy.

The situation is very grim with men committing more suicides than women in all age groups and all social strata. Yet, there is no awareness created about it, other than Save Indian Family Foundation and its allied partners. The Government authorities are repeatedly urged to look into men's issues and they repeatedly ignore the issue. It raises a pertinent question, Are Men Biological Robots? Its time, men are given their due basic rights and a men's welfare ministry is created and a National Commission for Men is instituted.

Men’s Rights – Perspiration or Inspiration?

As I think about the today's theme - it reminds me of Thomas Edison, the man who invented the electric bulb. He had made a famous statement "Things are 99% perspiration, 1% inspiration"

Same applies to men's rights movement as well. It is a matter of constant awareness campaign and hitting at our opponents and proponents of male abuse. Contrary to popular belief, it is 3 times easier to abuse a male than a female because males have no support structure and male abuse is accepted by the society as social service.

Follow Yourself; Not Tradition

As I have repeatedly mentioned in my articles that cultures have deceived men, acting as vultures. Men have been used as the FREE ATM MACHINE, the UNPAID BODYGUARD, the de-facto PROTECTOR and PROVIDER, etc. by cultures and in the process have been reduced to disposable entities. Their abuse is considered a social service now.

And men, the way they are, are in a great way responsible for this. They rarely challenge or question conventions, traditions, histrionics and stereotypes thrust upon them. They do not feel the need to fight for their rights - only a handful of them are doing though scores are getting victimized. They do not demand for their space in the society and accept things as offered to them.

To this effect, today I take the example of Skandagupta - the great emperor of India. His stepmother has him sent to Ujjain so that her son can be made the emperor. He obeys her. But then the Huns attack India under the leadership of Attila the Hun. The army of Skandagupta calls him back as they needed his expertise.
