Maruti Suzuki SX4 ad says, Men are Back, Amul Macho ad displays the same sentiment. Save Indian Family Foundation celebrated International Men's Day, on 19th November 2008 with the same message.

And the most important thing is that the events and ads mentioned above are both connected and disconnected to each other. Though male torture has been a part of their history since time immemorial, because of the general behavioral hardwiring, the same has been taken as de-facto behavioral pattern and never got the attention of social researchers, human rights activists, law makers, media and the government.

However, when things went to extreme, various men's rights groups like Save Indian Family Foundation in India, E4FInternational in the UK, First Initiative in the Pakistan and similar other groups in the US, the Australia, the New Zealand, etc. have come up and they have started creating awareness about men's issues and bias against men in the society, laws, etc. and male torture along with the need for men's rights was made felt.

This awareness campaign was definitely caught by the ad makers which resulted in these pro-men ads conveying strong messages stemming from the same thought process from which these fringe groups operate.

Hence, although the ad makers and the groups have no direct visible connection and for all practical purposes, can be considered as disconnected, yet they are connected by the thought process.

And the thought process is a simple message to the society that Men are Back and they will fight for their rights. Whether it is acceptable to the society or not, is not men's problem. It is the society's problem and it has to address it.

Sneak A Peek

Men’s Rights – Perspiration or Inspiration?

As I think about the today's theme - it reminds me of Thomas Edison, the man who invented the electric bulb. He had made a famous statement "Things are 99% perspiration, 1% inspiration"

Same applies to men's rights movement as well. It is a matter of constant awareness campaign and hitting at our opponents and proponents of male abuse. Contrary to popular belief, it is 3 times easier to abuse a male than a female because males have no support structure and male abuse is accepted by the society as social service.

Follow Yourself; Not Tradition

As I have repeatedly mentioned in my articles that cultures have deceived men, acting as vultures. Men have been used as the FREE ATM MACHINE, the UNPAID BODYGUARD, the de-facto PROTECTOR and PROVIDER, etc. by cultures and in the process have been reduced to disposable entities. Their abuse is considered a social service now.

And men, the way they are, are in a great way responsible for this. They rarely challenge or question conventions, traditions, histrionics and stereotypes thrust upon them. They do not feel the need to fight for their rights - only a handful of them are doing though scores are getting victimized. They do not demand for their space in the society and accept things as offered to them.

To this effect, today I take the example of Skandagupta - the great emperor of India. His stepmother has him sent to Ujjain so that her son can be made the emperor. He obeys her. But then the Huns attack India under the leadership of Attila the Hun. The army of Skandagupta calls him back as they needed his expertise.
