These days, Women's Reservation Bill is a hot topic of discussion in the blogs, media and everywhere. For starters, Women's Reservation Bill is being touted as the next best step towards Women Empowerment in Indian Parliament. The Bill talks of 33 percent reservation for women candidates in the parliament. Feminists, women empowerment agencies and women Pamperers, commonly referred to as Women Activists are painting the town red and leaving no stone unturned in getting the bill passed through, terming it as the leap of faith towards Women Empowerment. Before commenting on this one, I will go little back into history. Dr. B.R.Ambedkar was the mastermind and architect of the Indian Constitution and had recommended reservations for the economically backward classes, only for the first twenty years to enable their first generation to enter the rat race for money and sustain. However, due to politically influenced vested interests, the reservation was extended and today it has become a major source of the deterioration of the intellectual quality of the system and has also bred corruption like anything. However, that not being the point of contention here, I will talk about the main agenda herein. Reservation was given to them since they were not ‘capable' of achieving a good life sans it, as given at that time, resources were not easily available to them and it was indeed a noble thought to have such a constitutional provision. Now, talking of Women's Reservation Bill and the bill being propagated by women activists does it tacitly also imply that it is actually the Women Activists who consider their own women sisters as weak? For, in my opinion, women are no less capable than men and certainly do not deserve a ‘Reservation' which was meant for backward classes to be called ‘Empowered'. Today, women have access to all resources, voting rights, various laws to protect them, education, better health services, better and growing career opportunities and what not. Any woman, willing to enter the politics can easily do so on her own caliber and potential rather than getting something which was offered to the downtrodden decades back and is still being given. So are women activists in actuality working against the dignity of women? Are they really demeaning them? Answer will be clearer if we think as to why are they demanding 33 % reservations and that too only in the parliament. Supposing, it happens, and some more ‘Women Favoring' laws are passed, but then who will implement and protect the sanity of the laws, the males in the bureaucracy and the judiciary? Is it not like, "From frying pan to fire?" If true women empowerment is intended then the women activists, in addition to creating awareness about the importance of ‘Responsibility and Accountability' in women, should also vouch for 50 % reservation in all spheres, politics, judiciary, police, bureaucracy, public and private sector jobs, et al. But in wake of these demands missing from the current fight for Women's Reservation, it is clearly evident that the women activists have some vested interests in pursuing the matter of Women Empowerment half-heartedly hence proving, Feminism Reserves, what Humanism Deserves.
