A phenomenon underway, a trend that looks normal is very difficult to breakthrough. Male abuse is something like that only. Though, of late, men’s rights concept has started to gain a lot of ground, however that does not mean that male abuse is new trend of fashion. It has always been there since the time of King Shantanu. It will be difficult to say, however, as to what was the reason that it had been there since so many years, only now that the concept has started to come up in such a big way. May be a genetic evolution leading to some men being born who thought fighting for their own rights is no way anti-male. The past 5 years (2004 – 2009) have seen tremendous organization amongst battered and wronged men to come up as a force voicing their grievances and a lot of awareness is being created about it with various support groups coming up. However, silently this awareness campaign is also giving rise to more abused men. The natural psychological design of men and women is responsible for this ironical anomaly. By nature men are logic oriented and react to things similarly. When a man sees an abused man or listens to his story, he thinks the man must have done something to tolerate this and the same thing will not happen to him. For e.g. when he comes to know that a man has been falsely accused in a rape case, he thinks, at least the man must have asked for some sexual favors and since he himself won’t ask for it anytime so he will not face a false rape case. Women are not conditioned that way. When she listens to a woman facing any problem, the first thing that strikes her mind is,” what if I face a similar situation?” For e.g. if a woman comes to know that another woman has filed a case of Domestic Violence against her husband, she will think even her own husband is capable of committing Domestic Violence and will take adequate measures to safeguard herself. A man will never think that just because a woman can be raped, will she ever file a false complaint (based on the presumption that she can be raped) against a man of raping her. Whereas the way a woman thinks is, if her husband can commit Domestic Violence, why can’t my husband do the same? Men never think of possibilities till they become realities whereas women think of possibilities as realities and are thus better aware of the needs for the fight for their rights. Men are dumb this way, they do not realize the need to fight for their rights till they are snatched from them and then probably; they do not need those rights restored as the damage has already been done. This basic difference lies at the crux of the huge and humongous difference that lies today in the volume, reception and awareness about the respective rights of men and women. Again my arguments in Women Are Wonderful, will also hold good to explain the difference. Because women are nearer to their experiential domain, they can easily understand another woman’s pain and empathize with it as explained in Women Are Wonderful. And again as the article explains, since men are not closer to their experiential domain they are in no position to understand and empathize with another man’s pain, at best they can sympathize with him. And this fact is the biggest impediment to the growth of men’s rights. Additionally, in the above background, when awareness of male abuse is created, it goes equally to the potential male victims and their respective potential female perpetrators. Women learn a way to harass men, whereas men remain dumb till hit. And this again leads to increase of male victims of abuse. Of course it adds another victim of male abuse and potential men’s rights activists; however the behavioral pattern is socially taxing which needs to change. Choice, however, lies with men. They can continue to be logical till victimized or take up the cause of men’s rights to avoid being victimized to a reasonable extent.
