POTUS Obama and French President Sarkozy have faced it, common men face it daily. However, as Obama and Sarkozy are high profile people, their actions made it to the newspapers. It is about men staring women popularly also known as "Eve-teasing". You talk of the term and see the eyebrows of people going up against men and sympathizing women.
However, my views differ on this. I do not consider, what is commonly called as "Eve-teasing" as something condemnable or punishable. Nature has made women beautiful and men intellectual and if men are appreciating beauty of women, what is so big deal about it? After all, Beauty is meaningless without appreciation. And all men do under what is termed as "Eve teasing" is appreciating the beauty.
And, the matter of fact is that, women also silently enjoy it but also want to complain about it, so that they have full control of men and can use the tool of "Allegations of Eve Teasing" at free will like a loose unaccountable canon and fire at whim and fancy. Young women use it, just to have fun of boys and instigate boys against boys. Wives use it to make their husbands feel guilty for something natural and at times, non-existent.
And poor men, sans social support, often accept a guilt they did not do and this adds to the already existing negative image of men and it acts like a vicious circle. However, things are not as simple as they look. It's not limited to men appreciating beauty; such allegations are accepted at face value which means whatever the woman says is accepted as Gospel Truth and the man is punished for that.
Any woman can use this tool to ‘teach' any man a lesson and mostly it will be other men only ‘teaching' the lesson. This is the level of the society and this is where general intellect stands. And they call it a man's world and use the same phrase to castrate men.
It reminds of the phrase, "The amount of crime a man does with his eye is compensated with a woman's tongue". So if the man ‘stares' a woman, a woman ‘nags' a man and compensates the so called wrong-doing. However, spineless society - incompetent in confronting women - considers a nagging woman as an empowered woman and a staring man as a criminal. This is nothing but clear, candid and invisible bias against men.
And often it is the nags of a woman converted to a stare by a man that form the basis of his punishment, which means the woman lies and the innocent man, is punished for that. Lying is also a crime as, when compounded with violation of principles of natural justice, lying tantamount to crime, however, rather than lying women, falsely framed men are punished.
Hence the statement, "The amount of crime a man does with his eyes is compensated with a woman's tongue", because "what He sees is decided by what she says" as there is only the concept of women's rights but not of men's rights.
