Demand is often taken in negative spirit. Someone demanding something is generally detested upon because that's the comfortable way to escapism, devoid of responsibility, the demanded can take. This behavioral pattern puts a negative prerogative on the demanding and people often refrain from demanding. This pattern gets all the more strengthened when there is a lack of a communication channel like for men in society because as such demanding itself is tough and when there is proper communication channel available the uphill just gets steeper. Men do suffer from lack of a communication channel in the society as the society does not allow them to express their problems in a non-invalidating manner which does not justify their problems. Added to this the negative prerogative brought in by the Do Not Demand Syndrome makes matters worse. As a result today men are suffering not only from abuse but also from identity crisis. However, there have been men who have broken this pattern, for e.g., Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. He had formed the Indian National Army (INA) to fight against the colonial British Raj. The army was formed of young revolutionists and it was a very small army and not with much resources. But that did not stop Netaji from making a demand that has been enshrined in history as one of the most famous demands ever made. The demand made by him was:- "You give me blood, I will give you freedom" Netaji did not analyze his demand, nor was he apprehensive of the consequences. He knew he had to fight a tough battle and in order to do that he had to place a demand before his soldiers which will give them a future to look forward to. By demanding their blood, he promised them freedom and the soldiers did give their blood for freedom. Coming back to men, the fight for men's rights is no less than a freedom struggle. Men have borne and donned the role of a PROTECTOR, PROVIDER, FREE ATM MACHINE, UNPAID BODYGUARD, THE KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR, THE INITIATOR, etc. for centuries together and the rigidity and stiffness of this role is the biggest impediment to their rights. In order for men's rights movement to succeed, men have to be freed from these traditional roles. And in order to start this freedom struggle, men need to demand it from the society. Men need to tell themselves that the path, to their rights and the path to their respect in the society, starts with their demand for their freedom. Only the crying baby gets the milk. Unless men demand their freedom and then fight for their rights and respect, the society will continue to milk them and abuse them as well. Hence, men need to learn to Demand their Rights in order to Command their Respect just the way Netaji did irrespective of his circumstances.
