Here are some more FACTS (vice popular rhetoric) about child support in the United States:

  1. 29.9% of custodial fathers and 76.9% of custodial mothers receive a support award.
  2. 26.9% and 46.9% of non-custodial mothers totally default on support payments.
  3. 61.0% of non-custodial fathers and 20.0% non-custodial mothers pay support at some level.
  4. 10.2% of single custodial fathers and 66.2% of single custodial mothers work less than full time.
  5. 24.5% of single custodial fathers and 7.0% of single custodial mothers work more than 44 hours weekly.
  6. 20.8% of single custodial fathers and 46.2% of single custodial mothers receive public assistance.

Okay now pay attention here and take notes:

Source: [Technical Analysis Paper No. 42 – US Dept. of Health and Human Services – Office of Income Security Policy].

Take a note here guy... this is the United State Department of Health and Human Services. Not exactly supermarket tablooid journalism there... eh?
Continuing:

  1. 90.2% of fathers with joint custody pay the support due.
  2. 79.1% of fathers with visitation privileges pay the support due.
  3. 44.5% of fathers with no visitation pay the support due.
  4. 37.9% of fathers are denied any visitation.

And read this one real carefully, it’s pertinent:

66% of all support not paid by non-custodial fathers is die to the inability to pay.

Source: [1988 Census “Child Support and Alimony: 1989 Series” P-60, No. 173 p, 6-7, and “US General Accounting Office Report GAO/HRD-92-39FS Jan 1992]

The US GAO... here again not exactly supermarket tabloid journalism... wouldn't you say?

Professor Sanford Braver conducted the largest study to date on child support and associated economic factors and guess what he found:

40% of mothers reported they had interfered with the fathers visitationto punish the ex-spouse.
Source
[“Frequency of Visitation” by Sanford Braver, American Journal of Orthopsychiatry].
The American Journal of Orthopsychiatry, there's one you'll see next to Ms (just above Cosmo) with Angelina touting her latest "Lose 30lbs in a month" fad diet... at the grocery store checkouts.
NOT!

Lending whatever merit you care to the assign to this:

50% of mothers see no value in the fathers continued contact with his children.
Source [“Surviving the Breakup” by Joan Berlin Kelly]

Further: Seen this one yet?

“61 percent of all murdered children are killed by women!”

Sadly... it's true.

But look at it this way, if M/FRAs were like the ‘Pop-Feminist’ organizations, who use domestic violence as a vehicle to increase their social, political and legal power by attacking men, we would denounce all women for this and demand mandatory anger management courses to teach women how to control their tempers and curb their violent tendencies toward children... We would demonize all women on the basis of the murderous few.

Sneak A Peek

Men’s Rights – Perspiration or Inspiration?

As I think about the today's theme - it reminds me of Thomas Edison, the man who invented the electric bulb. He had made a famous statement "Things are 99% perspiration, 1% inspiration"

Same applies to men's rights movement as well. It is a matter of constant awareness campaign and hitting at our opponents and proponents of male abuse. Contrary to popular belief, it is 3 times easier to abuse a male than a female because males have no support structure and male abuse is accepted by the society as social service.

Follow Yourself; Not Tradition

As I have repeatedly mentioned in my articles that cultures have deceived men, acting as vultures. Men have been used as the FREE ATM MACHINE, the UNPAID BODYGUARD, the de-facto PROTECTOR and PROVIDER, etc. by cultures and in the process have been reduced to disposable entities. Their abuse is considered a social service now.

And men, the way they are, are in a great way responsible for this. They rarely challenge or question conventions, traditions, histrionics and stereotypes thrust upon them. They do not feel the need to fight for their rights - only a handful of them are doing though scores are getting victimized. They do not demand for their space in the society and accept things as offered to them.

To this effect, today I take the example of Skandagupta - the great emperor of India. His stepmother has him sent to Ujjain so that her son can be made the emperor. He obeys her. But then the Huns attack India under the leadership of Attila the Hun. The army of Skandagupta calls him back as they needed his expertise.
