All the characters in the article, though imaginary are derived from real life but do not exactly resemble any living character. Any semblance is purely co-incidental.

Background: Recently the Bell-Bajao Campaign has really picked up on TV. What with actor Boman Irani being its brand ambassador. Seeing it, I came across a very strange incident related to Bell Bajao which I could not help but blog. Some noises were coming from a house, so a curious stranger (being over-impressed with the Bell Bajao campaign), presses the bell. We will call the curious stranger as the ‘Good Samaritan aka GS and the person inside as ‘Ordinary citizen’ or OC.

Ting Tong, Ting Tong, Ting Tong.

OC opens the door when the bell rings and finds a stranger.

OC: Yes??
GS: I heard some noise from inside.
OC: So? Rang the bell?
GS: Yeah, have you not seen the Bell Bajao campaign asking you to knock anyone’s door if you hear noises.
OC: Oh that one, but what has that got to do with me?
GS: No, I thought, just in case…..
OC: Just in case, what Mr. Stranger. Without knowing anyone you just knock the door??
GS: No, but some noises…..

And our hero, the ‘Good Samaritan’ tries to take a peek inside. The ‘Ordinary Citizen’ gets angry now.

OC: Oh hello, Mr. First of all I stay with my son. There’s no lady here. I am watching TV, OK?
GS: Oh, I am so sorry. Actually yesterday my wife was hitting me, I thought someone will ring the bell, none did. Anyways I am sorry.

Well written, with a great truthful ending
Prassoon  - Men should learn to scream     |98.202.214.xxx |09-02-2009 00:37:09
you know why no one rang the bell of GS... Because GS didnt scream... men should learn to scream out louder, not just
tolerate abuse, to get the bell rung!!!

Moral - Only screamers get their problem solved!

can't agree more with you, but the intent of the article was to portray the other side

Very True...in this country only, such ads will be construed in a different way....forget about
outsiders....yesterday....i got a very rude shock at my home...when my spouse started one of her regular fights over
dinner....and we both were arguing....when suddenly she says....don't shout...else someone will ring the bell...it was
such a nasty shock...i have never ever touched my wife (i consider it a sacrilege and also so un-manlike.....why the
hell will i hit out at anybody). Point is....we may not be having a perfect marriage....we may be having differences and
we may argue over things...but getting confronted with something which totally passes a different message to
public...here i was -- forget hitting...was only responding to her jibes and nagging...and I am made to keep
quiet....seriously somebody had said correctly....a married person in India is worse than a dog...

I dont think Married people are worse than dogs in India. You have not seen most of Mumbais strays.

I have seen
dominating women at home and it is sad when roles reverse. A man needs to be married to a woman not to another man yet
women these day seem to want to be more masculine than ever.

My mother dominated the household most of the time and
my father just kept quite and swallowed all the humiliation. He said to me once," I bear it cause I want you to have
a mother at your wedding". Had my dad put his foot down or rather in her mouth we would have been a broken family.
Some people say he was not a man but he was more man than most men I know - he never thought of his manliness and
forsook it for us kids.

It would have been very easy to lose his temper and give her good but he did'nt.

And still you'd think its the women who're the tolerating lot, while the men are the perpetrators of violence...
That
its the women who tolerate the man's torture for the kids' sake!

How unrealistic is the social viewpoint...

Sneak A Peek

Men’s Rights – Perspiration or Inspiration?

As I think about the today's theme - it reminds me of Thomas Edison, the man who invented the electric bulb. He had made a famous statement "Things are 99% perspiration, 1% inspiration"

Same applies to men's rights movement as well. It is a matter of constant awareness campaign and hitting at our opponents and proponents of male abuse. Contrary to popular belief, it is 3 times easier to abuse a male than a female because males have no support structure and male abuse is accepted by the society as social service.

Follow Yourself; Not Tradition

As I have repeatedly mentioned in my articles that cultures have deceived men, acting as vultures. Men have been used as the FREE ATM MACHINE, the UNPAID BODYGUARD, the de-facto PROTECTOR and PROVIDER, etc. by cultures and in the process have been reduced to disposable entities. Their abuse is considered a social service now.

And men, the way they are, are in a great way responsible for this. They rarely challenge or question conventions, traditions, histrionics and stereotypes thrust upon them. They do not feel the need to fight for their rights - only a handful of them are doing though scores are getting victimized. They do not demand for their space in the society and accept things as offered to them.

To this effect, today I take the example of Skandagupta - the great emperor of India. His stepmother has him sent to Ujjain so that her son can be made the emperor. He obeys her. But then the Huns attack India under the leadership of Attila the Hun. The army of Skandagupta calls him back as they needed his expertise.
