Bullied workers 'afraid of speaking out' PDF Print E-mail

One wonders when the bullied worker has not reported the problem, then how are these statistics generated!!! And this is how feminist bargain for more and more legal and social concessions for non-performing women.

Sydney: Nearly two-thirds of Australian workers have been bullied in the workplace, and almost one third have been sexually harassed, but they are reluctant to report the incidents for fear of damaging their careers, a new study has found.

The CareerOne.com.au survey found that 62 per cent of people had been bullied, but only 31 per cent had reported the problem.

Twenty-nine per cent had been sexually harassed in the workplace, but 74 per cent of them chose to keep it to themselves.

CareerOne.com.au editor Kate Southam said workers were afraid of damaging their careers, particularly in the today's tough economic climate. "In the current climate where thousands of jobs are being slashed, employers have more power and workers suffering poor conditions such as bullying fear losing their job if they complain," Ms Southam said in a statement on Thursday.

The survey found that women were more likely to be sexually harassed than men - 37 per cent to 19 per cent - usually by a more senior colleague.

An almost equal number of men and women reported being bullied, 60 and 64 per cent respectively - again most usually by a more senior colleague.

Turning a blind eye to bullying and sexual harassment would lead to employers facing productivity losses, staff loyalty and potential litigation, Ms Southam said.

"Not only is the target of the bullying or harassment focused on what is going on, instead of on their work, so are the perpetrator and their respective support groups," she said.

"Bullying also silences people, so employers are only hearing one set of ideas and they may not be the best ones.

"Such employers also risk litigation and damaging their reputation with potential future employees and clients."

Men’s Rights – Perspiration or Inspiration?

As I think about the today's theme - it reminds me of Thomas Edison, the man who invented the electric bulb. He had made a famous statement "Things are 99% perspiration, 1% inspiration"

Same applies to men's rights movement as well. It is a matter of constant awareness campaign and hitting at our opponents and proponents of male abuse. Contrary to popular belief, it is 3 times easier to abuse a male than a female because males have no support structure and male abuse is accepted by the society as social service.

Follow Yourself; Not Tradition

As I have repeatedly mentioned in my articles that cultures have deceived men, acting as vultures. Men have been used as the FREE ATM MACHINE, the UNPAID BODYGUARD, the de-facto PROTECTOR and PROVIDER, etc. by cultures and in the process have been reduced to disposable entities. Their abuse is considered a social service now.

And men, the way they are, are in a great way responsible for this. They rarely challenge or question conventions, traditions, histrionics and stereotypes thrust upon them. They do not feel the need to fight for their rights - only a handful of them are doing though scores are getting victimized. They do not demand for their space in the society and accept things as offered to them.

To this effect, today I take the example of Skandagupta - the great emperor of India. His stepmother has him sent to Ujjain so that her son can be made the emperor. He obeys her. But then the Huns attack India under the leadership of Attila the Hun. The army of Skandagupta calls him back as they needed his expertise.
