In the recent incident in which Danmell Ndonye falsely accused five young men of rape, it seems that she did so to provide herself an excuse for her behavior to her boyfriend. Studies of false rape allegations by Dr. Eugene Kanin show that that's one of the common reasons for false rape claims. Caught in flagrante delicto by a spouse or partner, women sometimes play the 'rape card.' Here's another common reason for a false rape claim - revenge (Daily Press, 9/10/09). In this case, Megan McLane of Newport News, Virginia apparently got into a shouting match with another motorist. Angry at him, she reported to the police that he had stopped her, attacked her, choked and tried to rape her. Only when she was able to kick him did he go away, she claimed. Newport News police conducted a massive manhunt involving large numbers of police personnel. When they found nothing, she confessed to fabricating the whole story. McLane has been charged with misdemeanor filing of a false report. Maximum penalties are a year in jail and $2,500 fine. Strangely, unlike the Hofstra case, here the press named the false claimant. Thanks to John for the heads-up. Quote this article on your siteTo create link towards this article on your website, copy and paste the text below in your page. Preview : Powered by QuoteThis © 2008
