Who says marriage is not tumultous for men PDF Print E-mail

On the 8th of october, I had posted here the four ads (From Youtube) by Kohinoor Basmati Rice which clearly shows what kind of abuse men undergo in marriages. Anyone can mistakes and forget, but how husbands are subjected to torture for their minor mistakes whereas there are unrealistic expectations from men. They are not only supposed to take care of their own parents but also their parents-in-laws. In spite of this high expectation from them, their limitations are not accepted and they are subjected to domestic violence - a reality which the society does not acknowledge. This is double jeopardy for the men compounded with the fact that there is no communication channel for men.

No wonder almost double the number of married men are committing suicides every year as per suicide statistics below,

  1. 2005: 52,583 married men vs. 28,188 married women
  2. 2006: 55,452 married men vs. 29,869 married women
  3. 2007: 57,593 married men vs. 30,064 married women

The very next day, I find the videos have been removed by the user on youtube. Whereas I had only expressed my sincere and heartfelt gratitude towards the admakers and Kohinoor Basmati Rice Owners for taking the onus to create awareness about Domestic Violence on men in general and Husbands in particular, as a men's rights activist. Did this attempt of Gandhigiri on my part proved to be so brutal on them that they removed the videos.

No wonder the society eludes the concept of men's rights and allows it's men to suffer. Fellow Activists, take it as a victory and our battle continues.

Men’s Rights – Perspiration or Inspiration?

As I think about the today's theme - it reminds me of Thomas Edison, the man who invented the electric bulb. He had made a famous statement "Things are 99% perspiration, 1% inspiration"

Same applies to men's rights movement as well. It is a matter of constant awareness campaign and hitting at our opponents and proponents of male abuse. Contrary to popular belief, it is 3 times easier to abuse a male than a female because males have no support structure and male abuse is accepted by the society as social service.

Follow Yourself; Not Tradition

As I have repeatedly mentioned in my articles that cultures have deceived men, acting as vultures. Men have been used as the FREE ATM MACHINE, the UNPAID BODYGUARD, the de-facto PROTECTOR and PROVIDER, etc. by cultures and in the process have been reduced to disposable entities. Their abuse is considered a social service now.

And men, the way they are, are in a great way responsible for this. They rarely challenge or question conventions, traditions, histrionics and stereotypes thrust upon them. They do not feel the need to fight for their rights - only a handful of them are doing though scores are getting victimized. They do not demand for their space in the society and accept things as offered to them.

To this effect, today I take the example of Skandagupta - the great emperor of India. His stepmother has him sent to Ujjain so that her son can be made the emperor. He obeys her. But then the Huns attack India under the leadership of Attila the Hun. The army of Skandagupta calls him back as they needed his expertise.
